Overview

PLEASE READ:

Over the past 2 years the Patricia Kind Family Foundation (PKFF) has been involved in developing a strategic plan which will strengthen the focus of our grantmaking and community networking activities. The information we gathered from over 500 partners and community members will enable the Foundation to fine tune our work in the coming years.

In order for PKFF to extend grantmaking in Philadelphia for the long-term, the Trustees have agreed to pause new direct service grants until 2026. This decision will give us the opportunity to thoughtfully align our grantmaking practices with our budget as we evaluate our spend rate and explore creative funding opportunities. During this time, we will continue with our capacity and collaboration efforts as well as our ongoing grant commitments.

The next online application cycle will open Summer/Fall 2025 for funding in 2026. In addition to continuing our primary focus of direct service general operational support to help communities struggling with the impacts of poverty, we are also supporting capacity and collaboration building. Additionally, we are reaffirming our commitment to prioritize funding smaller Philadelphia organizations supporting historically marginalized communities with operating budgets less than $1 million.

As we go through this process over the next year, we will continue to update the community and schedule conversations to share our progress and get feedback. In the meantime, if you have thoughts you would like to share, please feel free to contact us as we are interested in hearing from members of the community.

The Patricia Kind Family Foundation accepts applications, supporting documentation, and grant reports online. In 2019, we changed our focus to funding organizations providing services only in Philadelphia County (this does not include Trustee Grants). Most giving is in the range of $10,000 to $25,000/year for a one to three year period and priority is given to smaller organizations with budgets under $1 million. Please note - we are strongly focusing on organizations with budgets of $1 million or less. If you have a large budget and are unsure if you should apply, please reach out prior to submitting an application.

We encourage organizations to apply for multi-year general operating support funds.

APPLICATION TIMELINES:

The online application will close at 5:00pm on the deadline date.

Site visits are done on all programs selected for possible funding and, if possible, the Trustees want to see the program “in action”. Please keep this in mind when selecting which application cycle to use and note the months during each cycle that site visits are scheduled. Alternate site visit arrangements can be made for organizations running programs during the summer months.

All applicants are contacted during the review process. After the application cycle closes and the application has been fully reviewed you will be contacted as to the status, either to schedule a site visit for further evaluation or notification that the proposal was not selected for funding. This process will take six to seven weeks after the deadline.

Excluded from the Foundation’s funding priorities are grants in direct support of individuals, i.e., scholarships or fellowships; endowments; and capital projects.

Grantees must take an application cycle off after submitting their final report before being eligible to submit a new request.

Applicants who have been denied funding must take an application cycle off before being eligible to submit a new request.
