Each summer for over 50 years, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation has partnered with residents to host Play Streets. Nearly 350 one-way streets are closed to traffic between 10AM to 4 PM each day for neighborhood children to play safely outside their homes. To ease the burden in underinvested neighborhoods, lunch and a snack are provided to all children. The COVID-19 crisis amplifies the critical need for structured play and learning activities for children. This summer, with more resources and partners, Play Streets has enhanced 100 of its sites in the most underserved neighborhoods to provide additional enrichment activities.
